Anthony Scaramucci is an American financier who is most well known for his incredibly brief stint as Donald Trump’s White House Director of Communications.

But away from the political limelight, he is also a high-profile player in crypto investment.

So, what is the story behind the notorious Anthony Scaramucci, and what is his net worth?

Who is Anthony Scaramucci?

Anthony Scaramucci – nicknamed the Mooch – was born to Italian-American parents on January 6, 1964.

Growing up on Long Island, New York, he was the first in his family to attend college. Scaramucci studied economics at Tufts University before then attending Harvard Law School, graduating in 1989.

Upon completing his studies, he took on a job as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. But his career there was far from straightforward. He was hired, fired, and then re-hired all within the space of his first 12 months.

“I was absolutely terrible at the job,” Scaramucci said once in an interview recalling his first stint at the firm.

“Goldman had a good management structure back then, and so what do you think happens to you when you’re terrible at a job? You get fired.”

He added: “I was putting the quarters in different payphones in midtown calling friends or whoever to try to get myself a job.

“And then somebody I called said okay, there’s a job opening at… Goldman Sachs.”

Second time around he took on a role in the company’s sales division. A much bigger success second time around, he went on to become a vice president in the bank’s Private Wealth Management division.

In 1996, after seven years, he left Goldman to start out on his own, launching Oscar Capital Management with his colleague Andrew Boszhardt. The pair sold the firm Neuberger Berman in 2001.

In 2005 he founded SkyBridge Capital, a global investment fund that focuses on digital assets. As of September 2022 it had placed over $800million in digital asset-related investments, many of which have been in crypto.

Scaramucci’s achievements at SkyBridge Capital saw him win Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2011, and in 2016 he was ranked at no85 in Worth magazine’s “Power 100: The 100 Most Powerful People in Global Finance”.

The American financier remains in charge of SkyBridge today, but in January 2017 he stepped aside for a brief period in order to join then-President Donald Trump’s White House team.

On July 21, 2017, the Mooch took over the role of White House Communications Director. He lasted just 10 days in the job.

In his short cameo, he threatened to “fire everybody” over leaks to the press, blew air kisses to the press during a media briefing, and even told a journalist during an expletive phone call that one of his colleagues was a “f***ing paranoid schizophrenic”.

He later described his decision to join Trump’s administration as a “mistake”.

It was in 2020 that Scaramucci first decided to take the plunge and start investing in cryptocurrency via SkyBridge Capital.

Announcing plans to open up a dedicated $25million crypto fund on January 4 2021, he said Bitcoin would be a “very strong asset class” over the next decade and that it was important for his firm to get on board before it was too late.

“We could be at the precursor of an avalanche of institutional investors heading in,” he said at the time.

He has been a vocal advocate of blockchain technology ever since, regularly making TV appearances and joining panels at conferences to promote cryptocurrency.

In September 2022, Sam Bankman-Fried announced FTX was paying $45million for a 30 per cent stake in SkyBridge. SBF’s exchange went bust just two months later.

Despite FTX’s demise having a serious impact on Skybridge Capital and the wider crypto landscape, Scaramucci remains optimistic for the sector.

Anthony Scaramucci’s Bitcoin prediction

After a difficult several months for Bitcoin following the collapse of LUNA and then FTX, Anthony Scaramucci has tipped the cryptocurrency to rebound in the coming years.

Speaking about the prospects for crypto in 2023 he labelled the next 12 months as a “recovery year” before prices surge again.

He said that by the end of the year, Bitcoin could be worth $35,000.

“If we get the adoption right — and I believe we will — this could easily be a $50,000 to $100,000 asset over the next two to three years,” he said about Bitcoin.
