AN ADVERTISING student from The Hague has put his soul up for sale in the form of an NFT.
Stijn van Schaik, 21, has listed a digital copy of what he says is his soul on the NFT marketplace OpenSea.
It is currently listed for a price of just $374.26.
Non-fungible tokens are one of a kind digital assets stored using blockchain technology.
They have unique identification codes and metadata that make them distinguishable from each other.
van Schaik said he hopes his stunt will help raise greater awareness of the assets and the potential offered by blockchain technology.
He wrote on his website: “I would like to introduce people to the possibilities of cryptocurrency by uploading my soul to the blockchain.
“I hope minting my soul as an NFT will grab the attention of more mainstream media in order to reach people that are not familiar with the technology yet.”
Non-fungible tokens have seen exponential growth in popularity over the past year with an increasing number of people interacting with the blockchain technology.

It is thought that there are currently more than 360,000 NFT owners around the world.
Despite a drop off in sales of the tokens in recent weeks, analysts expect in the long term the digital assets will become increasingly mainstream.
The listing for van Schaik’s soul on OpenSea reads: “Hello person, you are currently looking at a soul.
“For now it is mine.
“Once it is fully uploaded on the blockchain, who knows what will happen.
“What does it mean for a soul to be decentralised? Let us find out.”
In a nine-page long contract listed on his website, van Schaik outlines the full terms and conditions of exactly what owning his soul means.
“The owner of the Soul may possess, claim, keep, store, offer, transfer, or make use of it in whole or in part in any manner that they see fit to do so,” it states.
It lists examples of uses of the NFT including “sacrificing or offering said soul, in whole or in part, to any deity or spiritual entity” and “using the soul, in whole or in part, for some purpose which causes it to diminish in value”.
