JOBS being advertised in the metaverse have soared by over 400 per cent over the last four months.

The number of US job listings that mention the metaverse grew from 697 in October 2021 to 3,339 in February 2022, according to an analysis by Adzuna, a search engine for jobs.

In October 2021, Facebook rebranded to Meta and Mark Zuckerberg announced the companies intentions to focus on developing a metaverse.

Meta sees the metaverse as the next phase of the internet – a virtual reality where users can “socialise, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what we can imagine.”

Meta has said it will hire 10,000 people in Europe over the next five years to build its metaverse.

And since October other firms such as Microsoft, Disney, Roblox, Nike and Gucci have bought into the concept.

Businesses experimenting with the metaverse are hiring for design, marketing, and engineering roles.

Adzuna analysed millions of jobs being advertised in the US over the past three months which included the words “metaverse”, “crypto”, and “cybersecurity.”

Adzuna found the top five industries advertising for metaverse jobs are currently IT with 1,705 jobs available; creative and design with 566 jobs available; PR, advertising and marketing with 361 jobs available; engineering with 272 jobs available; and sales with 202 jobs available.

James Neave, head of data science at Adzuna, said: “The last few months have seen a surge in job openings related to the metaverse with demand catalyzed by Zuckerberg’s Facebook rebranding and refocusing exercise.”
