MARK ZUCKERBERG gave an insight into Meta’s artificial intelligence research on Wednesday as he prepares to build the metaverse.

The tech entrepreneur used a live-streamed “Inside the Lab” event to unveil a number of AI projects currently being worked on.

He showcased new technology being built by Meta as it experiments with the potential of a new virtual reality platform.

“The key to unlocking a lot of these advances is AI,” Zuckerberg said.

The Facebook creator first announced his metaverse ambitions in October last year, changing his company name and pumping billions of dollars into creating a virtual reality world.

The investment has saw Meta’s shares plunged more than 20 per cent earlier this month after a sharp decline in profit in the fourth-quarter of 2021.

Speaking today, Zuckerberg said he was working on building a new generation of AI models that would allow users of his metaverse to help shape the digital world around them.

They would be able to describe what they want their virtual reality to look like and use AI technology to see it be built in front of their eyes.

He said: “As we advance this technology further, you’ll be able to create nuanced worlds to explore and share experiences with others, with just your voice.”

In a pre-recorded demo, Zuckerberg showcased the AI “Builder Bot” as speech commands were used to add a beach, clouds, trees and a picnic blanket to a virtual reality island.

As previously reported by 24/7 Crypto, Zuckerberg also said he was building a supercomputer, capable of real-time language translation.

It would allow free-flowing conversations between those who speak different languages, with messages translated at never-before seen speeds.

The “AI Research SuperCluster”, as it is known, is set to be ready by the middle of this year.

In a final major reveal in Wednesday’s Inside the Lab session, Zuckerberg demonstrated his Project CAIRaoke tech which aims to allow more natural conversations between users and voice assistants.

Meta showed a demo of a family cooking a stew with the voice assistant giving guidance such as warning that salt had already been added to the pot.

No timescale has been placed on Zuckerberg’s metaverse dreams, however, the businessman has previously admitted it will take years to build his vision.

Last week he announced he was stepping back from some day-to-day responsibilities in order to focus his attention on building the metaverse.
