LEADING brands including Dolce & Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger are taking part in a virtual fashion week in Decentraland.

The four day long fashion week will take place in the metaverse platform at the end of March.

From March 24-27, models will show off luxury brands’ latest trends on digital catwalks.

Clothes ready to wear in the metaverse will be on display for all those attending.

Showcase virtual runway shows and a series of afterparties will also take place.

The fashion week was first announced in December 2021, but details of the event have only just been confirmed.

As well as Dolce & Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger, Selfridges, Dundas, and Jacob & Co have all been trailed to be taking part.

Clothes in the metaverse are purchased in the form of NFTs – one of a kind virtual assets – and have become increasingly popular over the past 12 months.

Decentraland said it decided to launch its inaugural fashion week in response to the growing interest.

Sam Hamilton, Decentraland Foundation’s creative director said: “Fashion and haute couture are not new to the metaverse.

“Decentraland has been on the cutting edge of rare and in-demand digital fashion since the launch of avatar wearables in 2020.

“Since that time, creators have been pushing both the technical and stylistic limits of Decentraland wearables, and have created a booming economy with over $1million in sales of avatar wearables last year.”

The four day festival will take part in Decentraland’s newest area, the “Luxury Fashion District”.

Next month’s event is not the first time a well-established fashion brand has held a metaverse showcase.

Last year Gucci held an installation called “Gucci Garden Experience” on the platform Roblox.

A digital Gucci bag sold for $4,000 at the event.

Nike has also recently opened Nikeland, a virtual fitting room where people can outfit avatars with the companies products.
