The Sandbox announces partnership with Ikonia

The Sandbox has announced a partnership with Kyiv-based NFT incubator Ikonia.

An NFT Incubator is a platform that supports and promotes digital artists and creators as they start their careers.

The partnership will see the two firms bring the real-life mural of Italian footballer Andrea Pirlo, located on Lafayette Street in New York City, into the metaverse.

Decentraland will host Metaverse Pride

Decentraland will host Metaverse Pride, a month-long celebration which will feature a number of virtual events, parties and performances.

Metaverse Pride will be presented in partnership with METAPRIDE LAND, Mastercard and Teleperformance.

Iara Dias, Director of Metaverse Pride at Decentraland, said: “It’s an honor to get to build the future of the Internet with Decentraland, but with it comes the tremendous responsibility to ensure we are building a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for everyone, everywhere.

Disney hires former Apple executive to head up metaverse creative strategy

Disney has hired a former Apple executive to head up their metaverse creative strategy.

Mark Bozon spent 12 years at Apple but will now oversee Disney’s push into the metaverse space.

Bozon will build a team across the company which will then create new immersive experiences.

Kanye West files 17 trademark applications

Kanye West has filed 17 trademark applications for his brand Yeezus.

The trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office include mentions of “non-fungible assets” and “metaverse experiences.”

One filing mentions the potential for “providing an online marketplace for buyers of crypto and/digital collectibles, currencies, tokens, and assets.”

This comes just months after Kanye West shared an Instagram image of a handwritten note saying: “Do not ask me to do a fucking NFT” before adding “Ask me later”.

Meta is changing its stock ticker

Meta, which currently trades under FB, has confirmed it will change its Nasdaq ticker to META beginning June 9.

South Korea invests in the metaverse

South Korea is betting big on the metaverse.

The South Korean government will invest around $177 million in various metaverse projects.

The decision to invest in metaverse tech makes South Korea one of the first national governments to do so.

The investment comes under the “Digital New Deal” program which was set up to invest in emerging technologies.
