LAST week saw Dolce & Gabbana embrace the metaverse at Milan fashion week, using a virtual catwalk.

Decentraland announced plans to host a fashion week in the virtual world and Mark Zuckerberg revealed more about his metaverse ambitions.

Decentraland to host metaverse fashion week

Decentraland announced plans to launch a fashion week in the virtual world which will take place from March 24-27, 2022.

Vogue Arabia, Elie Saab, Guo Pei, Etro, Jacob & Co, Dolce & Gabbana, Selfridges, Tommy Hilfiger, Fewocious, Dundas, Cavalli, Paco Rabanne, Hogan, Franck Muller, Garrett Leight, Cavalli, and The Fabricant will participate in the four-day fashion event.

Participants will be able to congregate in Decentraland’s Luxury Fashion District.

Sam Hamilton, Decentraland Foundation’s creative director said: “Fashion and haute couture are not new to the metaverse.

“Decentraland has been on the cutting edge of rare and in-demand digital fashion since the launch of avatar wearables in 2020.

“Since that time, creators have been pushing both the technical and stylistic limits of Decentraland wearables, and have created a booming economy with over $1 million in sales of avatar wearables last year.”

Dolce & Gabbana embraced the metaverse at Milan fashion week

Dolce & Gabbana used a virtual catwalk along with the real one at Milan fashion week.

On a giant screen, avatars wearing the new collection took a pixellated 3D strut towards the audience.

When the virtual models reached the catwalk, they disappeared and were replaced by real-life ones, who walked the runway.

Mark Zuckerberg unveils AI projects aimed at building metaverse future

Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta – formerly Facebook – is working on artificial intelligence to generate worlds through speech and improve how people chat to voice assistants and translate between languages.

The tech entrepreneur unveiled a number of AI projects currently being worked on, speaking at the company’s live-streamed “Inside the Lab” event.

He showcased new technology being built by Meta as it experiments with the potential of a new virtual reality platform.

“The key to unlocking a lot of these advances is AI,” Zuckerberg said.
