What happened to Seth Green’s NFTs?
Seth Green had one Bored Ape Yacht Club, two Mutant Ape and one Doodle NFT stolen in a phishing attack in 2022 by a pseudonym called ‘Mr Cheese’.
The theft included Bored Ape NFT #8398, which cost Green $200,000 and was meant to be featured in a new TV series called ‘White Horse Tavern’.
This raised questions on whether Green was still able to use the Bored Ape for the show or if he had lost the copyright.
The copyright to the Bored Ape NFT Yacht Club collection is owned by its creators Yuga Labs and although buyers of the NFTs have rights to license and distribute them, the agreement didn’t extend to stolen NFTs.
Green said: “We can prove the promise of ape community,” as he pleaded with the hacker and a person who bought one of the NFTs from the hacker.
Blockchain data shows Green paid 165 ETH – worth about $260,000 at the time – to have the NFTs returned.
The thief, known as ‘Mr Cheese’, initially said he had purchased the NFT in good faith and didn’t have any intentions of returning it.
Green said: “I bought that ape in July 2021, and have spent the last several months developing and exploiting the IP to make it into the star of this show.
“Days before he’s set to make his world debut, he’s literally kidnapped.”
What is Seth Green’s net worth?
Seth Green has an estimated net worth of $40 million from his career in acting.
