THE FIRST ever metaverse hotel is being opened next week in Decentraland by Singapore’s Millennium Hotels and Resorts.

Called “M Social Decentraland“, the hotel is located near Genesis Plaza.

Based at the heart of the metaverse platform, Millennium Hotels and Resorts hopes its property is ideally located for those looking to explore attractions on the virtual platform.

The hotel will be striking in its design, featuring a giant “M” on each of its four sides, along with glass exteriors and neon pink accents.

Users can check in their avatars to the virtual hotel just like they would if they were staying at one of the company’s physical properties.

Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Limited said: “M Social is about being different, being one of a kind.

“As we look towards the future, we need to look past the traditional model of hospitality and engage our guests through new immersive experiences.

“We hope to redefine hospitality through M Social Decentraland by creating online adventures that integrate with real life events.”

The hospitality company will open the virtual hotel on May 5.

In total, Millennium Hotels and Resorts has over 145 physical hotels across some 80 locations.

It hopes its presence in Decentraland will help attract new customers.

Those who check in at the virtual property have the chance of wining real world hotel surprises.

Millennium Hotels’ entrance into Decentraland makes it just the latest company to look to take advantage of the growth in interest in virtual reality worlds.

Last month the bank HSBC launched in The Sandbox to “create innovative brand experiences for new and existing customers”, while leading fashion brands have launched virtual stores in metaverse platforms to increase their interactions with customers.

The growing trend of firms having a metaverse presence comes after new research last week by the UK’s Institution of Engineering and Technology suggested the next generation of children are likely to spend up to two hours and 45 minutes a day in virtual realities.

Calculated over the course of a lifetime, it suggested people could spend an entire 10 years of their life in the metaverse.
