Dixon decided to join the Stellar community in 2019 when Jed McCaleb, one of Stellar’s founders, approached her about leading the company.
Dixon leads a team that helps maintain Stellar’s codebase, supports the communities around Stellar, and advocates on behalf of the network with international stakeholders making Stellar’s aim of promoting financial inclusion possible.
Dixon said: “I’ll admit that while I was initially hesitant about joining Stellar, the more I thought about how blockchain, and Stellar specifically, could pave the way to solving some of the biggest challenges of financial access and the web, I couldn’t resist.”
What is Stellar?
Jed McCaleb invented Stellar to help the world’s unbanked population have access to financial services.
Stellar’s payment system allows money to move across borders much cheaper and quicker than existing systems.
To use Stellar users upload funds to an ‘anchor’ on the network – think of it as a bank that lives on the Stellar network.
If a user wants to send dollars from the US to a friend who lives in the UK, the anchor will verify you have uploaded your dollars to the network, Stellar then converts the currency into British pounds and moves the money to your friend’s Stellar address.
The friend can withdraw the funds from an anchor that supports British pounds and get access to the currency.
This is done in 3-5 seconds and fees are fixed at 0.00001 XLM per transaction.
Stellar also has an automatic currency exchange for both fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies, so users don’t have to convert the currency or pay a third party to do so.
