Who is Brad Garlinghouse?

Brad Garlinghouse was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 6, 1971.

He went to the University of Kansas and graduated with a BA in economics before going on to do an MBA at Harvard Business School.

Garlinghouse started his career at Internet provider @Home Network before joining Venture as a General Partner.

He then moved to the AI-powered cloud communication platform Dialpad to become CEO in 2000.

Garlinghouse went on to serve as Senior Vice President at Yahoo! from 2003 to 2008 before moving to AOL as President of Consumer Applications.

He then jumped ship again in 2012, becoming CEO of the file-sharing service Hightail.

Garlinghouse joined the crypto industry in April 2015, as Ripple COO reporting into then-CEO and co-founder Chris Larsen.

He was promoted to CEO in December 2016.

What is Ripple?

Ripple is the project behind the cryptocurrency XRP.

XRP works very differently from other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, as it doesn’t rely on energy-intensive mining to create new coins.

Instead, XRP was created all at once, and Ripple gradually sell it as and when they need to.

It’s more focused on developing methods to help banks and other financial institutions move money faster and without fees as opposed to buying services and goods.

Brad Garlinghouse owns a 6.3 per cent stake in Ripple Labs.

Garlinghouse’s personal net worth was once estimated at $3 billion, however, following the steady decline of cryptocurrency prices in 2022, he is now estimated to be now worth around $600 million.
