In the years before he started investing in crypto, Armstrong was a drug addict who required intense rehab to help get his life back on track.
“I think that anyone who needs to make a big change in their life, I think it’s not a matter of will, it’s not a matter of saying ‘okay I definitely need to do this and I’m going to do it, it’s actually a matter of giving up,” he said in a video on his website as he opened up on his backstory.
“For me personally, I received help back in 2007. I actually used to be a drug addict and for seven years that’s what I did every single day and I had a major overdose.
“I was in a coma for three days and when I came out of that coma in 2007 I realised that I needed help.
“I actually spent two years going to rehab. I spent one year as an in-patient, resident at the rehab, and then another year as an interim. After that I realised that it was my purpose in life to help people.”
He started studying at Toccoa Falls College Kennesaw State University in 2009 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2012.
Turning his life around, Armstrong started his BitBoy Crypto YouTube channel in 2018.
He says he originally hoped that the videos would help him make enough money to buy a family home.
After finding success, he turned his attention to helping others.

“I had to learn how to purchase Bitcoin, how to hold it in a wallet, and make transactions. Man it was so confusing,” he explained in a video to his followers.
“I just had a few dollars it seemed like in there – maybe $50 – then all of a sudden, overnight, it went to like $2,000-3,000.”
It was not until five years later in 2017 that he decided to invest in cryptocurrency full-time.
